Below is the part that decides how much you keep: how a minimum-spend offer is actually calculated, when two discounts stack, and why checkout turns a code down.

Where to enter the promo code

One thing up front: Discoup is not a store. We provide the promo codes, coupons and deals, and then you are redirected to the merchant's website. You apply the code in the merchant's cart or at checkout, never on Discoup.

Open the offer and read the details and the expiration date. Click Get Code to copy the coupon, or Get Deal when the discount is applied through the link. On the merchant's site, add your items to the cart, then find the field labeled Promo Code, Discount Code or Coupon, paste the string in and apply it. The discount has to show up in your order summary before you pay, because the total on that screen is the amount that gets charged.

On mobile the field is frequently collapsed. Retailers tend to hide it inside the final order summary, under a toggle named something like "Coupon / Promo Code", on the last step before payment. Open that section before you conclude the code is dead.

Promo code vs. automatic deal

A lot of people get stuck here, and the rule is short: not every promotion needs a string you paste. Some are activated by the link itself.

How "$10 off $50" is really calculated

Threshold offers are the most common promotion in US retail and the most commonly misread. "$10 off $50" almost never means ten dollars off a fifty-dollar total. It means ten dollars off fifty dollars of eligible merchandise, and the two numbers are rarely the same.

What usually falls outside the eligible subtotal: sales tax, shipping, gift cards, and any item the promotion excludes. So a cart showing $52.40 can fail a $50 threshold, because tax and shipping were carrying the difference while the merchandise itself came to $46. That is the single most frequent reason a code that looks like it should work does not.

Two practical consequences. First, read the threshold as a merchandise number and check the subtotal line, not the order total. Second, be careful about adding a filler item to reach the minimum: if the filler is excluded from the promotion it will not count toward the threshold, and you have bought something you did not want for nothing.

One more case worth knowing: percentage-off codes with a cap. A "20% off, up to $30" code stops helping once your merchandise passes $150, so on a larger cart a flat-dollar coupon can be worth more than the bigger-sounding percentage.

Why checkout rejected your code

When a code will not apply, the checkout is enforcing a rule rather than failing. The error message usually names it, and four rules account for most rejections.

It does not stack. If your cart already holds clearance items or an active promotion, most merchants block a second discount. A cart of full-price items is the quickest test.

The minimum was not met. See the section above: measured on eligible merchandise, not on the total you are looking at.

Exclusions. Doorbusters, final sale, specific brands, app-only offers, marketplace sellers on a mixed cart: if the fine print names it, the code fails no matter how carefully you copied it.

Account limits and timing. Plenty of codes are new-customer only, or one use per account, or require you to be signed in. Others expire in hours, and flash offers can end while the cart is still open.
