Two numbers sit on almost every JCPenney coupon, and only one of them is yours. The higher percentage belongs to shoppers paying with a JCPenney credit card or Mastercard, and the lower one, printed right beside it, is for everybody else. Read that pair before you read the headline. Then lift a code off the list further up, open your shopping bag and drop it into the field for coupons, which sits next to a second field reserved for rewards. Watch the summary recalculate before you pay, because the two fields are counted separately and an order will take only one promotional code.
Everything below the live cards was checked against JCPenney's own customer service pages during August 2026. The cards themselves are a live feed and change without warning, so when one up there contradicts a line down here, the card wins.

August 2026 at JCPenney: what is actually running
Checked on August 13, 2026. What follows describes how the coupon board looks at this moment. The cards stacked above this text are the live list, they refresh by themselves, and every one of them carries its own conditions and its own timing. Everything further down this guide holds between refreshes.
August is a narrow month for typed codes and a wide one for markdowns. Almost everything on the board right now is a sale selection whose cut has already come off the ticket, and the handful of offers that ask you to type something are gated rather than general: two of them open only above a large minimum, on mattresses and on made-to-measure blinds, and two more pay their full rate only to a JCPenney cardholder. If you are shopping apparel, jewelry or home with a debit card, expect the number you actually receive to be a few points below the number in the headline.
Shipping and pickup, as published today: standard delivery runs 3 to 5 business days and is free once the order clears the published threshold, currently forty-nine dollars, with a flat charge below it. Sending the order to a JCPenney store instead is free above twenty-five dollars and takes 4 to 7 business days, and the store holds it for ten days before sending it back. Those are the figures on JCPenney's shipping page on August 13, 2026 and they can move without notice, so the checkout is what settles it.
Verified in August 2026 (last check August 13, 2026):
- Extra 30% off apparel, shoes, accessories, fine jewelry and home — coupon code — that figure is the cardholder rate, and a lower one applies with any other payment method — the closing date is printed on the card itself
- Up to 35% off fine and fashion jewelry — coupon code — split again between the card rate and the rate for everyone else — the card states how long it has left
- Extra 10% off Beauty and Salon products — coupon code — limited to a selection inside the department — the timing is written on the card above
- 30% off orders above $750 on selected mattresses — coupon code — original and regular prices only, with a separate rate written for furniture — the end of the run sits on the card
- 30% off orders above $400 on custom blinds and shades — coupon code — original and regular prices only, made-to-measure lines — the card above shows when it stops
- Up to 50% off the back to school selection — sale, nothing to type — the reduction has already been taken off the ticket — its window is listed on the card
- Free standard shipping from $49 — automatic at checkout — choose standard delivery and no code is involved — a permanent threshold, not a promotion with a clock on it
Open the card first. Three quarters of the offers on this page need no code at all, and among the ones that do, the condition deciding the outcome is rarely the percentage: it is a department, a minimum, or the card in your wallet.
The mistake to avoid this month: stacking two typed codes. JCPenney counts a promotional code and a shipping code as different animals and will take one of each, but it will not take two promotional codes in the same basket, however different they look. If you are holding a jewelry code and a home code, they belong to two separate orders.
Worth watching next: JCPenney publishes a Weekly Ad on its own site every week, and that ad states for each promotion whether it is valid in stores, online, or both. It is the cleanest way to see the next rotation before it reaches the cards above, and it is also where the in-store-only reductions surface, since those never need a code.
Three things to settle before you pay
Which of the two percentages is mine? The lower one, unless you are paying with a JCPenney credit card or Mastercard. Read the offer down to the line that starts with "or", because that is the rate written for every other payment method. It is usually five to ten points below the number in the headline, and it is what your basket will show.
Am I better off in the store today? Possibly, and it costs nothing to check. The same reductions are published in an in-store version that needs no code at all: you print the barcode or bring it up on the app at the register. Returns are also free at the counter and carry a charge by mail, so a purchase you are unsure about is cheaper to make near a store.
Should I sign up before checking out? If you have never registered, yes, and for one specific reason: joining the rewards program on JCPenney's site or app comes with a ten dollar welcome credit, which lands in the account within about forty-eight hours. That is a one-time offer taken at sign-up, and it cannot be claimed later.
Where a JCPenney promo code goes
The code goes in earlier than most people expect. You do not need to reach the payment screen: the entry sits in the shopping bag, and you can also reach it from the checkout page.
- Fill the bag first, because nearly every offer reads your total and your departments before it decides whether it applies.
- Copy one code from the offers above and open your bag.
- Paste it into the coupon field and confirm it. Rewards have their own field beside it, so do not put one in the other.
- If a second box opens asking for a serial number, the code you pasted needs one. Reward codes always do.
- Read the summary, not the box you typed into. An accepted code shows up as its own line there, and the total after discounts is the number that counts.

Two details save a trip to customer service. If you are collecting the order in a store and the discount never landed on the total, bring the code with you: the total can be adjusted at pickup. And if the code refuses to stick, retype it rather than pasting it again, since a trailing space is enough to break the match.

Why one offer shows two percentages
This is the single mechanic that explains most of what you will see advertised for this retailer, and it is worth ten seconds of reading. JCPenney writes its main coupons as a pair. One rate is reserved for purchases charged to a JCPenney credit card or JCPenney Mastercard. The other, a few points lower, is what applies to a debit card, a bank card, PayPal or a gift card. Both live on the same offer, separated by the word "or", and the marketing headline almost always quotes the first one.
The consequence is practical. A jewelry offer advertised at thirty-five percent is a thirty percent offer for most shoppers. An apparel offer advertised at thirty is a twenty. Nothing is being hidden, the second number is printed right there, but it is easy to skim past and then be surprised by the total.
The same split runs through the store card benefits. Cardholders earn points at a higher rate on the same purchase, and the account opening discount is a separate one-time offer on the first purchase, sized by how much that first basket comes to. It is a credit product with its own interest terms, so weigh it the way you would weigh any card, not the way you weigh a coupon.
When a JCPenney discount code is refused
A code that will not apply is usually intact. What fails is one of the conditions attached to it, and the list of conditions is short enough to check in a minute.
- Another code has the slot. One promotional code per order is the hard rule. A second one will not sit next to the first.
- The total is under the minimum. Several offers open only above a threshold, and the larger ones are set high on purpose: hundreds of dollars on furniture, mattresses and made-to-measure lines.
- The department is wrong. Most codes name a selection rather than the whole catalog, so a basket mixing eligible and ineligible items will discount only part of it, or nothing.
- The items are clearance. Clearance at JCPenney means a permanent markdown, and permanent markdowns sit outside many of these offers.
- It is an in-store code you are using online, or the reverse. Some offers exist in only one of the two channels, and the terms on the card say which.
- It needs a serial number you have not entered. That second field is not optional when it appears.
- You expected the cardholder rate. The code applied correctly; it simply applied at the rate written for your payment method.
How many codes one order will take
JCPenney publishes an actual number here, which is rarer than it should be. An order accepts up to ten codes in total, with no more than one promotional code and no more than one shipping code among them. Everything else in that allowance is rewards.
The order in which they land matters as much as the count. A percentage or dollar-off coupon is applied first, then any rewards you have earned, then a shipping discount if one applies. Earned rewards are treated separately from coupons throughout, which is why they get their own entry field and their own line in the summary.
| Type | How many per order | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Promotional code | One | The offers above, the Weekly Ad, or an email or text you subscribed to |
| Shipping code | One | A separate class of offer that discounts the delivery charge rather than the goods |
| Reward code | Up to ten in the same transaction | Your own rewards balance, always with a serial number |
| Sale and clearance | No limit, nothing typed | The price on the page is already reduced |
One quirk deserves a note before you spend a reward. A redeemed reward is applied ahead of storewide and digital coupons and ahead of shipping discounts, and should the order come to less than the reward is worth, the difference is not returned to you. Small orders are the wrong place to spend one.
At the register: the barcode instead of the code
Searching for a code to use at the till is looking for something that does not exist, and the reason is good news. JCPenney publishes the same reductions twice: an online version that carries a code, and an in-store version marked as needing no code at all. What you take to the register is a barcode, either printed at home or brought up on the mobile app, and the associate scans it.
So the practical answer to whether these offers work in a store is yes, but not by typing anything. A few points follow from that. The in-store version can differ from the online one, and occasionally an offer exists on only one side, which is why the Weekly Ad states for each promotion whether it is valid in stores, online, or both. The two-rate split follows you to the register as well, since the higher percentage is still the one written for the store card. And some reductions are local to your own branch, so the trip is sometimes worth more than the search.
One in-store offer is worth naming because it asks for something other than a card: teachers get an extra ten percent on a selection across apparel, shoes, accessories, fine jewelry and home, on presentation of a valid teacher ID, with no code involved. The salon runs its own separate offer for new clients.
Free shipping, and the three ways to get it
Free delivery is the most searched thing on this page and the most misunderstood. A shipping code does exist at JCPenney as a distinct class of offer, separate from a promotional code and limited to one per order, so it is not a myth. It is simply the least reliable of the three routes, because it has to be running to be used. The other two are always available.
| Route | What it requires | What arrives |
|---|---|---|
| The order threshold | A basket above the published minimum, currently forty-nine dollars, with standard delivery selected | Free standard delivery in 3 to 5 business days |
| Delivery to a store | A basket above twenty-five dollars and a branch you can reach | Free, ready in 4 to 7 business days, held for ten days |
| A rewards tier | Enough qualifying spend in the year, and for the top tier a store card as well | Store delivery free on eligible items, and at the top tier standard home delivery free above a small minimum |
| A shipping code | One to be running, and it takes the single shipping slot on the order | A discount on the delivery charge instead of on the goods |
Two things trip people up. Free shipping is tied to standard delivery, so choosing an expedited option at checkout removes it, and the express charges are quoted separately by speed and by the size of the order. And a few categories sit outside all of this: heavy and bulky items travel by truck with their own delivery charge and an appointment booked with you, which no threshold and no code will cover.
Points, CashPass and the tier you land in
The loyalty program was rebuilt in June 2026 and now runs across two brands in the same group rather than JCPenney alone, so an account opened at one is an account at both. If you were already a member, you were moved across automatically. It costs nothing to join, and it keeps paying out whether or not a code happens to be running.

- Points. One per eligible dollar, more with the store card, capped at two thousand points on a single transaction. They are calculated on what you actually pay, after any coupon has come off.
- CashPass. Every two hundred points turns into a ten dollar credit. Up to ten of them can be used in one transaction at JCPenney, and if the order is worth less than the credit, the remainder is lost.
- Tiers. Four of them, entered by qualifying spend in the calendar year, with the entry tier also granted automatically to anyone holding the store card. The higher tiers add a birthday credit, event invitations, shipping benefits, and at the top a complimentary salon or photo studio session each year.
- Challenges. Opt-in tasks that pay points or a credit, capped at two, four or six a year depending on your tier. You have to opt in first; activity before that does not count.
- What earns nothing. Gift cards, taxes and fees, shipping and installation charges, protection plans, services, donations, international orders and anything bought from a marketplace seller.
Two rules cost people money quietly. Points expire after twelve consecutive months without earning any, so a long gap between orders empties the balance. And a return removes the points that purchase earned, which can push the balance below zero and, if it crosses a threshold, drop your tier. One last thing worth knowing while you are on this page: JCPenney is a brand that pays Discoup points, so a purchase made while you are signed in here earns on our side too, separately from and on top of whatever lands in your JCPenney account.
What the store card changes
Three things, and it is worth separating them. The first is the rate on the coupons, already covered above: cardholders read the higher of the two numbers. The second is the earning rate, which rises above the standard one point per dollar and rises again at the top tier, on the same purchase and within the same per-transaction cap. The third is status: holding the card places you in at least the entry tier for as long as you hold it, without any spending requirement.
A one-time discount also lands on the first purchase after approval, larger on a larger basket, with a separate credit added to the rewards account for being approved at all. Both carry an expiry and their own exclusions, so read the terms on JCPenney's own card page rather than any figure quoted elsewhere.
The counterweight is the obvious one. This is a credit account with a variable interest rate published on that same page, and none of the above is worth paying interest for. If the balance is not cleared each month, the coupon rate stops being the relevant number.
Price match and the fourteen days after you pay
The price match guarantee is a standing policy rather than a promotion, and it runs every day of the year including Black Friday. JCPenney will price match another retailer's advertised price on an identical item, in store and online. Identical means the same brand, style, color, size and model, and advertised means advertised: an unadvertised shelf price is not matched, and neither is an expired or misprinted ad. Bring the complete original advertisement so the whole description and price can be read; for an online order you call customer care instead.
The part most people miss is that it works after the fact. If a qualifying lower price is still valid within fourteen days of your purchase, you present the ad with your receipt and the difference is refunded. JCPenney also runs a separate one-time sales adjustment in store within the same fourteen days with the original receipt.
The exclusions are where the arithmetic gets decided, so read them before you plan around this. Marketplace sellers, third-party sellers and auctions are out. So are bundled offers, rebates, liquidation and clearance prices, open box and outlet merchandise, prices that need a membership card, and prices tied to a credit card. Offers at other retailers that require a coupon to reach are also excluded, which rules out a good deal of what you will find quoted online. Internally, JCPenney matches its own store and site prices against each other, but not on clearance and not on offers that exist only online. Coupons are applied after the match, never instead of it, and the guarantee covers the continental United States only.
Returns: free at the counter, eight dollars by mail
The window is sixty days from the date of purchase, with a receipt, for anything bought in a store or on the site, and the refund goes back to the original payment method or onto a JCPenney gift card. Without a receipt, the item may be taken as a return voucher at the lowest price it sold for in the previous forty-five days, and a valid photo ID is required.
Where you return it changes what it costs. In a store it is always free, and they will process items worth less than the mail fee too. By mail there is a flat eight dollar charge deducted from the refund, which covers the whole return from a single order, and the credit can take up to four weeks to appear. Furniture and mattresses are handled by phone rather than by either route.
If a code or a reward was on the order, the return is not blocked, but two things happen behind it. The points that purchase earned are removed. And a redeemed reward is neither refunded nor reissued: its value is deducted from what comes back to you, spread proportionally across the qualifying items, so sending back half an order refunds rather less than the shelf price suggests. Gift cards, personalized and monogrammed items, altered items and a short list of hygiene categories cannot be returned at all.
JCPenney coupon questions people actually ask
Can two JCPenney coupons go on one order?
Not two promotional ones. The published rule is up to ten codes on an order, of which no more than one may be a promotional code and no more than one a shipping code; the rest of that allowance is for rewards you have earned. Different types stack, identical types do not. If you are holding two percentage codes, they belong to two separate orders.
The site is asking for a serial number. What is that?
It means the code you entered is a reward rather than a coupon. Rewards always carry a serial number alongside the code, and when the site recognizes one, a second entry field opens for it. Both parts come from the same email or the same certificate, so look further down the message you copied the code from.
Do these offers work in a JCPenney store as well as online?
Yes, but through a barcode rather than a code. JCPenney publishes an in-store version of its main offers that is marked as needing no code: you print it or bring it up on the app and it is scanned at the register. Some offers exist on only one side, and the Weekly Ad says for each promotion whether it is valid in stores, online, or both.
Why did I get a smaller discount than the offer advertised?
Almost certainly the payment method. Most JCPenney offers carry two rates: the headline one for purchases charged to a JCPenney credit card or Mastercard, and a lower one, written on the same offer after the word "or", for every other way of paying. Beyond that, check whether part of your basket sat outside the eligible departments, or was clearance, since a permanent markdown is carved out of most of them.
Is there a code that gives free shipping?
A shipping code is a real category at JCPenney, distinct from a promotional code, and an order will take one of each. But it has to be running at the time, so the dependable routes are the other two: clear the published order threshold with standard delivery selected, or have the order sent to a store, which is free above a much smaller amount. The upper rewards tiers also carry shipping benefits of their own.
What happens to my points and my rewards if I send something back?
The points that purchase earned are removed, and if that takes the balance below a tier threshold your tier can be adjusted down; a balance can also go negative, in which case future points clear the deficit first. A redeemed reward is not refunded or reissued either. Its value is taken off what you get back, spread proportionally across the qualifying items in the order.
Does JCPenney still match a lower price somewhere else?
Yes, on an advertised price for an identical item, every day of the year, in the continental United States. It also works for fourteen days after you have paid: present the valid ad with your receipt and the difference comes back. Marketplace and third-party sellers are excluded, as are clearance, liquidation and bundled prices, and any offer that needs a coupon to reach. Your own coupons are applied after the match rather than instead of it.
Is it worth joining the rewards program before I order?
On a first order, yes, and mainly for one reason: signing up on the site or the app comes with a ten dollar welcome credit, added to the account within about forty-eight hours, and it is offered only at the moment of enrollment. After that the case is the ordinary one: a point per eligible dollar, a ten dollar credit at every two hundred points, and tier benefits that arrive on spending you were doing anyway.
