A Costco run gets planned rather than improvised: the membership decision comes first, the cart comes second, and the discount usually lands without anyone typing anything at all. Most Costco discounts are instant savings that come off the price automatically at checkout, so the codes actually worth hunting are the membership sign-up offers, not a percentage off your basket. The guide below sorts out which Costco offers carry a code, which ones land by themselves, and where each membership tier earns its fee back.
Editorial text on this page was last reviewed in August 2026. Costco's offer boxes higher up are maintained automatically and override anything written below them.

Costco offers as they stood in August 2026
Verified in August 2026. What follows is how this page stood when we went through it, written out so you can read it in one pass. The boxes higher up the page stay the live reference and they change without notice.
The shape of the month is the one Costco has kept for years. The membership tiers carry the concrete numbers, while the merchandise savings are instant, meaning the reduction is already inside the price you see instead of something you unlock at the end. Costco states this plainly in its own help pages: items with instant savings have no code to enter, and the amount is deducted during checkout.
Costco offers on this page, checked in August 2026
- $40 Digital Shop Card — membership sign-up offer — for a new Executive sign-up with auto renewal set up at the counter or online, $20 on the Gold Star tier — its own box above states when it closes
- $130 a year — Executive membership offer — the tier that earns the annual 2% Reward — closing date printed on its box above
- $65 a year — Gold Star membership offer — the base tier for personal shopping, household card included — the box above holds the deadline
- $10 a month — same-day delivery credit — Executive members only, on pre-tax baskets from $150 — deadline shown alongside the offer above
- Satisfaction guarantee — no-code offer — covers the membership fee and the merchandise alike — its box above shows the run dates
Treat the boxes above as the source of truth rather than this list, since Costco rotates membership promotions and same-day credits on its own calendar and the value attached to a sign-up depends on which tier you pick. Read the tier first, then the condition: nearly every Costco offer that looks like a discount turns out to be a membership term.
The mistake that quietly costs people the bonus. It is signing up and then skipping auto renewal. The Digital Shop Card is tied to enrolling in auto renewal with a valid email address at the moment of sign-up, and switching it on a week later does not backfill the reward.
Worth waiting for. The Warehouse Savings run that was live at our check closes in the third week of September, and Costco replaces it with a fresh set rather than leaving a gap. A big-ticket item that carries no reduction right now has a decent chance of appearing in the next run, so a purchase that can wait a few weeks often should.
Three quick answers before you order
Is the monthly same-day credit worth chasing? Only if you already hold an Executive membership. Costco applies a $10 credit automatically at checkout on same-day orders of $150 or more before tax. The credit lands on the first of the month, and whatever is left of it expires on the last day of that month rather than rolling over.
Do the current warehouse savings work online as well? Some do and some do not, and Costco labels each item either as available in the warehouse and online or as online only. The savings page prints its own start and end dates at the top, sets a purchase limit per item, and warns that the selection varies by location.
Is 2-Day Delivery worth paying for? Items flagged for 2-Day Delivery carry a $3 surcharge each, and Costco drops that surcharge on orders of $75 or more before taxes. Consolidating a few grocery items into one order therefore beats anything a code search would turn up.
How a Costco discount actually reaches your total
Costco is unusual among big US retailers in how little of its discounting runs through a code field. For products carrying instant savings, its help center is explicit that there is no coupon code to enter: the reduction is deducted during checkout and then shown in the cart. That is why a search for a percentage-off Costco code so often ends in nothing, which is a quirk of the model rather than a sign you missed a better deal.
When an offer does come with a code, the routine is the ordinary one. Sign in, build the cart, enter the code at checkout in the field Costco shows for promotions, and confirm that the total moves before you pay. If it refuses, the reason is almost always one of four: the offer applies to selected items only, there is a minimum spend you have not reached, the offer is reserved for new members, or it has simply run out. Costco also does not accept general manufacturer coupons, and it explains the reasoning openly: it prefers to distribute its own offers by mail and in its locations instead.
Those mailed offers are the Costco Savings Booklet, sent to the primary member on an active Gold Star, Business or Executive membership, with a limit of one booklet per address. The same offers appear on the Warehouse Savings pages, where every item shows its purchase limit and the window it belongs to.
| Savings path | How it reaches you | What to check first |
|---|---|---|
| Instant savings on an item | Deducted automatically during checkout, no code involved | The item page and the cart total |
| Membership sign-up offer | A Digital Costco Shop Card issued after the sign-up goes through | Whether you count as a new member, and that auto renewal is on |
| Executive 2% Reward | A certificate mailed with your renewal notice, not a checkout discount | That your Executive membership is paid when the reward is issued |
| Price drop after you buy | A refund request on Costco's own price, inside a fixed window | Your order date and the current Costco price |
Sign-up offers and what they really include
Costco answers the discounted-membership question itself, and the answer is short: it does not offer free or discounted memberships. Everybody pays the same annual fee for the same tier. What changes between one month and the next is the welcome gift attached to a new sign-up, and that is what makes the membership offers above rotate while the fee itself sits still.
The mechanism behind those offers is the referral program Costco runs at its membership counters. An existing member brings someone along, the newcomer signs up, and both of them receive a Digital Costco Shop Card once auto renewal is enrolled and a valid email address is on file. The Executive tier carries the larger card and the Gold Star tier the smaller one. The conditions deserve a read first: the offer is for genuinely new members or people whose membership has been expired for at least 18 months, there is a limit of one per household, and it does not stack with any other Costco promotion.
Upgrading later is a separate path. Moving from Gold Star to Executive costs an upgrade fee above the base membership, and Costco prorates it against the months left in your current year, so an upgrade halfway through does not cost a full year. Renewals, though, sit outside all of this: the sign-up gifts are aimed at new accounts, which is the honest answer to the renewal-code question that a lot of people arrive here with.
The 2% Reward and where it breaks even
The Executive Membership pays back through an annual 2% Reward on qualified purchases at Costco warehouses, on Costco.com and through Costco Travel. The reward is capped at $1,250 in any 12-month period, and it arrives as a certificate mailed with your renewal notice roughly 2 months before your renewal date, on condition that your Executive membership is paid at the moment it is issued.
Costco publishes the arithmetic rather than leaving you to guess it. On its own reward table, around $3,252 of qualified spending across a year returns roughly the value of the upgrade fee, which works out to a little over $271 a month. Below that level the upgrade is a bet on future baskets; above it, the reward simply outgrows the fee. Not everything counts toward it, either: Shop Card purchases, a gift of membership, cell phone contracts sold through third parties and alcohol in a long list of states are all outside the calculation.
Two details trip people up. Purchases made before the upgrade never count, so timing an upgrade just before a large planned purchase matters more than timing it at renewal. And reversing your Executive status wipes out the accumulated reward instead of paying out a partial amount.
Shop Cards, gift cards and tickets
The Costco Shop Card is the quiet workaround for anyone without a membership of their own. Costco states that non-members as well as members may use a Shop Card in any of its locations in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico, and online at Costco.com, and that the balance can go toward a membership as well as merchandise. Two limits matter if you plan to lean on it: a Shop Card cannot pay for a same-day delivery order, and it is not redeemable for cash except where the law requires it.
The gift cards and tickets aisle is a separate lever in its own right. Costco sells restaurant, gaming, entertainment, travel and health packs alongside movie tickets, sports tickets and theme park admissions, and the mechanism is nearly always the same: a multipack listed for less than the total face value printed on the cards inside it. It is the closest thing on the site to a straightforward percentage off, and it needs no code.
If you hold the co-branded Costco Anywhere Visa from Citi, note where its annual reward certificate can actually be spent. Costco accepts those certificates in the warehouse only. To turn one into online spending, take it to a warehouse, buy a Costco Shop Card with it, and use the Shop Card on Costco.com.
Delivery costs, price drops and the guarantee
Shipping on most Costco.com items is included in the price shown, which removes the usual reason for hunting a delivery code. Express shipping is quoted separately at checkout, and bulky goods travel on their own terms: curbside, threshold, room of choice or full white glove delivery with unpacking and packaging removal, each spelled out on the listing itself. Appliances are often delivered with basic hookup and haul away, again depending on the item.
If the price comes down after you have paid, Costco will look at it. Purchases whose price falls inside 30 days from the order date are eligible for a price match request, submitted through your order for Costco.com purchases or at the returns counter for warehouse ones. The boundary is clear and saves a lot of wasted effort: Costco does not match other businesses or retailers, nor does it set a Costco.com order against a warehouse price, since the online price already carries shipping and handling.
Behind all of it sits the risk-free satisfaction guarantee. The membership fee is refundable at any time if you are not satisfied, and merchandise is refundable too, with a documented set of exceptions. Televisions, major appliances, computers, tablets, smart wearables, cameras, drones and cell phones have to come back within 90 days of the date you received them. Shop Cards, gift card and ticket items, precious metals, and airline and live event bookings are not refundable at all.
Frequently asked questions about Costco coupons
Is there a Costco promo code for renewing a membership?
Not from the sign-up offers, which is where most of these codes originate. Costco reserves them for genuinely new members and for people whose membership has been expired for at least 18 months, and the terms exclude renewals and upgrades. If you are renewing, the levers that do exist are switching on auto renewal and, if your yearly spending justifies it, moving to the Executive tier for the 2% Reward.
Does Costco accept manufacturer coupons?
No. Costco says it does not accept general manufacturer coupons, and explains why: it distributes its own offers to members by mail and in its warehouses instead, and it argues that manufacturers tend to load the cost of a coupon program into the product price in the first place.
Does Costco have a student or key worker membership rate?
Costco is explicit on this point: it offers no free and no discounted memberships of any kind, which leaves no student rate and no separate rate for teachers, healthcare staff or the emergency services. Anyone joining pays the published fee for the tier they choose. What a student or a first-time joiner can still take advantage of is the new-member welcome offer, when one is running.
Can you order from Costco.com without a membership?
Through a Costco Shop Card, yes. Costco states that non-members as well as members may use a Shop Card at its locations in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico, and online at Costco.com. Member-only items remain the exception, since those require signing in with a valid membership before the price and the details become visible.
Can a new membership and a member-only item go in one order?
No, and the order matters. The membership purchase has to be completed on its own first. Costco then sends an order confirmation containing your new membership number, and that number is what lets you add member-only items to a second order.
What if an item gets cheaper right after I buy it?
You can ask for the difference back. Costco treats a purchase as eligible for a price match when the price falls in the 30 days after you order, requested through the order online or at the returns counter in a warehouse, with credits typically refunded to whatever you paid with. Items sold with specific promotional dates have to be claimed inside those dates as well.
Where can the Citi reward certificate be spent?
In a Costco warehouse only. The certificate earned on the co-branded Costco Anywhere Visa from Citi is not accepted for online purchases, but the workaround is simple and Costco recommends it directly: use the certificate in a warehouse to buy a Costco Shop Card, then spend the Shop Card on Costco.com.
