Order the dress today, or wait for the next round of M&S offers? At Marks & Spencer the answer depends on which of the two ways of saving you rely on, because they pay out at different moments. A reduced price on the offers page, or a code from the cards at the top, comes off the order you are about to pay for, while Sparks puts personalised rewards into a digital wallet that you spend on a later shop. The first lowers this basket and the second builds a balance for the next one.

M&S has extended its returns period for the festive season: full-price items bought from late October 2026 can go back until mid-January 2027, or until the end of the usual window if that comes later, while sale items keep their own shorter limit. So a full-price present bought from late October 2026 can still go back after Christmas, as long as the returns policy covers it.

Gift receipts are the other tool of the season. M&S's returns help explains that an online order placed through an account can carry a gift receipt, either printed at home or emailed with a personal message at once or on a later date, and the receipt shows no prices. The recipient can take the item to a store, where staff at the till can exchange it or put the balance on a gift card. According to the same help, receipts are set up from the online account in a web browser, not in the app.

Dates for the diary: Black Friday 2026 at the end of November, then Christmas 2026, then mid-January 2027, when the festive returns window on full-price buys closes.

Gift shopping at M&S: three questions

How soon can a Sparks reward earned on gift shopping be spent? According to the Sparks terms, a reward from a food offer is in the wallet straight away, while a reward earned on fashion, home or beauty shows as pending for 14 days before you can spend it.

If a present that completed a Sparks offer comes back, does the reward go too? Yes. The reward is removed when an item that counted towards the offer is returned, and if the return happens before the offer expires, the offer reopens so you can complete it again within its original dates.

Can Sparks wallet money pay for gift cards? No. The Sparks terms exclude gift cards and infant formula from what the wallet can buy, so a reward goes on products instead, in a store or online.

How to use a Marks and Spencer voucher code

Fill your bag first, since a code only covers the items its offer includes, then add the code before you pay and look at the order summary: the saving should be showing there before you confirm the order.

M&S's help has two tips for the code itself. If it reached you by email, paste it in, because some codes mix letters and numbers that look alike, and keep any hyphens, since a code written in the XXXX-XXXX style has to be entered with them.

Why an M&S code is turned down

M&S's help lists the checks to run when a promotion code will not work:

• The date: the code may have expired, and its end date is in the terms of the offer.
• The items: the basket may hold products that the offer does not include.
• One use only: some codes can be redeemed a single time, so a code already used on an earlier order stops working.
• The country: a code issued for one of M&S's international websites does not work on the UK site, and international codes need the overseas delivery address entered first.

Sparks offers and the digital wallet

Sparks, the free M&S rewards programme, is open under its terms to UK residents aged 18 and over, and its main saving tool is the personalised offer. You activate an offer in the M&S app or on the website, reach its spend target in a single shop or across several, depending on the offer, and the reward is paid into your digital Sparks wallet.

Rewards stay in the wallet until you decide to use them or they expire. To spend the balance, you pick an amount in whole pounds, from £1 to £100, confirm it with the security code M&S sends you, and that sum is loaded onto your Sparks card. It then comes off your next shop of the same value or more, in store or online, as long as the card is scanned or you are signed in. Under the Sparks terms, if you return something paid for partly with a reward, that share of the reward goes back to the wallet within 24 hours.

Using a reward and chasing an offer in the same shop affect each other. Spend towards a Sparks offer is counted on what you actually pay after any reward, and M&S spreads a reward across every item in the basket, so using one can leave an offer short of its target. Reduced fashion, home and beauty items, sale lines included, do count towards offers; products with a yellow sticker do not.

Membership brings other perks as well: a birthday treat, provided your date of birth is in your Sparks profile 35 days or more before your birthday month; a seventh hot drink free after six stamps collected through the app at M&S cafés; prize draws; a 1p donation to the charity you choose each time you shop using Sparks; and, for expectant parents and families with babies up to two, the parent hood club with offers of its own.

Offers, sale prices and email sign-up

The M&S Offers page gathers the promotions the store runs itself: percentage reductions on selected lines and on partner brands sold at M&S, multibuys, and free gifts or gift sets with selected beauty brands. Reduced styles sit in a sale section of their own across womenswear, menswear, lingerie and nightwear, kidswear and sportswear, and the offers page marks some sale events as online only.

M&S also invites shoppers to register their email address for exclusive offers tailored to them, plus rewards and promotions before anyone else. Sparks members who opt in to emails also get progress updates and reminders on the offers they have activated.

Log in to your Discoup account, accept the cookies on Discoup and on the M&S site, follow the link from this page to M&S, and the purchase can earn points once it is confirmed. A purchase paid for with a gift card, even in part, does not earn them.

Delivery, collection and returns

Fashion, home and beauty orders can go by standard, next-day or nominated-day delivery, the last two not to Northern Ireland, or to a store with Click & Collect, and charges vary with the service. According to M&S's delivery page, a Click & Collect order waits in store for five days after the arranged collection date, and the options open to your basket and postcode appear at checkout.

The returns policy gives 28 days on most purchases, online or in store. Sale items bought online work differently: you have 14 days to tell M&S you want to return them, then a further 14 days to send them back. According to M&S's returns help, a fashion, home and beauty store is the quickest route: the return is processed within a day and the refund follows in three to five working days, while a postal return is processed within 10 days. Postal returns are free under the same policy, though an order made up only of sale items collected from a store usually has to go back to a store, again at no charge.

Promotions carry through to refunds. Items bought on a 3 for 2 can be returned one at a time but are refunded at the promotional price you paid, a free item that came with a purchase has to come back with it, and a refund lower than expected may reflect a promotion on the order, which M&S asks you to check on the order summary or receipt first. Under the returns policy, if you paid for delivery, the standard delivery charge is refunded only when the whole order goes back by post or home collection within 14 days of receiving it.

Gift cards, PayPal, Clearpay and Klarna

Online orders can be paid by debit or credit card, Apple Pay, PayPal, Clearpay, Klarna, or M&S gift cards and e-gift cards. A promotion code does not rule out the instalment options: M&S's payment help says Clearpay and Klarna can be used together with gift cards and valid promotion codes and coupons, and PayPal alongside gift cards and with promotions and coupons.

M&S's payment help also explains that Clearpay and Klarna lend a fixed amount of credit and that PayPal Pay in 3 is an agreement with PayPal to pay in instalments, with each provider deciding whether you qualify. The same help sets out that Clearpay splits an order into four instalments taken every two weeks and Klarna and Pay in 3 into three, that each plan has a basket range measured after reductions, that missed payments can bring late fees or be reported to credit reference agencies, and that Pay in 3 is not available on orders placed in the M&S app. A code that lowers the basket can therefore change which plans it qualifies for.

Beauty, home and kidswear offers at M&S over Black Friday weekend

On Black Friday 2024, the M&S offers page carried up to 40% off selected bedding, lighting and kitchenware alongside 20% off selected beauty. On Black Friday 2025, the homepage opened with 25% off all beauty and also promoted up to 50% off all kidswear without using the words Black Friday, and the offers page did not use them the next day either. Over that weekend in 2025, the offers page also listed up to 40% off bedding and up to 30% off selected furniture.
