Nike x One Piece Air Max Plus lands in the UK

Nike x One Piece Air Max Plus lands in the UK

Anime crossovers with sneaker brands come and go, but this one has actually landed with the detail fans hoped for. Nike and One Piece have built an entire capsule around the Air Max Plus, and after weeks of teaser images and pop-up events abroad, the collection is finally reaching UK shoppers this week.

Three trainers, three Devil Fruits

The heart of the collection is three Air Max Plus SP colourways, each one built around a different Devil Fruit from the manga:

  • the purple and green Gomu Gomu no Mi,
  • the fiery orange Mera Mera no Mi,
  • the berry-toned Ope Ope no Mi.

Rather than slapping a logo on an existing shoe, Nike reworked the upper for each pair, translating the powers and visual identity of every fruit into the panelling and colour blocking. The apparel side of the capsule follows the same idea, with jerseys, caps and a vest referencing details from the story.

If you want to see how a limited-run Nike collaboration is priced and where the UK stock is landing, the Discoup page dedicated to Nike offers and vouchers is a useful place to keep an eye on before you commit to a pair.

When and where it lands in the UK

The rollout has been staggered by design. The Ope Ope colourway was the one earmarked for European retailers, and it landed in London on 19 September through select stockists, including Offspring.

The full collection now goes live globally through Nike's SNKRS app on 25 September, which is the point at which all three pairs become available to order in one go rather than through separate regional drops. Each pair is priced at roughly £132.

Why the staggered release matters for your wallet

Staggering a drop across cities and platforms is a deliberate way of building demand, and it works: pairs that sell out at physical pop-ups tend to reappear almost immediately on resale sites at a mark-up.

If you're not fussed about being first in the queue on release day, waiting for the SNKRS launch on 25 September, or for restocks in the days after, is usually the more sensible way to get retail price rather than resale price.

It's also worth comparing what different UK stockists are charging once the collection is live, since a capsule this size is rarely locked to a single retailer for its entire run.

A crossover built for two different fanbases

What makes this drop worth watching beyond the usual sneaker crowd is that it's genuinely aimed at two audiences at once. One Piece has one of the largest manga and anime followings in the world, and Nike's Air Max line has its own dedicated collector base that rarely overlaps with anime merchandise. Pairing a fruit-based power system with sneaker design is a fairly literal translation, but it's been done with enough care that it reads as a proper collaboration rather than a licensing exercise.

Given how quickly similar crossover drops have moved in the past, expect the Gomu Gomu colourway in particular, tied to the series' lead character, to be the hardest of the three to get hold of at full price.
