What Is Amazon Prime Day?

Prime Day is Amazon's members-only shopping event, open exclusively to Prime subscribers. It started in 2015 as a single day and has since grown into a multi-day event spanning dozens of product categories, from clothing and beauty to kitchen and electronics.

Amazon isn't the only retailer cutting prices this week. Walmart and Target routinely launch their own multi-day sales timed to overlap with the event, competing head-on in categories like electronics, home and back-to-school essentials.
