What Is Amazon Prime Day?

Prime Day is Amazon's members-only shopping event, open exclusively to Prime subscribers. It started in 2015 as a single day and has since grown into a multi-day event spanning dozens of product categories, from clothing and beauty to kitchen and electronics.

The company has also added a second, smaller edition later in the year, often called Amazon Prime Big Deal Days, which is generally treated as an extension of the same Prime Day event.

Anyone can take part by signing up for Prime, including through a free trial, so a membership isn't a barrier for shoppers who just want to check the savings once a year.

When Is Amazon Prime Day 2026?

The main 2026 edition ran from June 23 to June 26, giving Prime members four full days of new deals, with fresh offers added as often as every five minutes during peak windows.

Amazon has confirmed the fall edition for this year: Prime Big Deal Days will run October 6 and 7, 2026, in line with the early-to-mid-October pattern of the last few editions.

How to Get Ready for Amazon Prime Day

Checking that a Prime membership is active, or starting a free trial, saves a scramble once deals start dropping.

Turning on notifications in the Amazon app, or adding a product to a wish list, flags the moment a watched deal goes live, which matters because Lightning Deals and limited-stock items can sell out within minutes.

Browsing Discoup's brand and category pages before the event starts is an easy way to line up a shortlist, so there's less to figure out once the clock starts running.

What Will Be on Sale for Prime Day

• Apple remains one of the biggest draws every year, and Prime Day Apple deals typically cover iPad, AirPods and Apple Watch, alongside strong competition from Samsung and ASUS on laptops and monitors.
• Kindle is one of Amazon's own devices getting the deepest cuts, and Prime Day Kindle deals often line up with discounts on Fire TV, Echo smart speakers and Ring doorbells and cameras.
• LEGO is a favorite every year: during Amazon Prime Day LEGO sets get some of the deepest discounts, alongside gaming markdowns on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation and Xbox consoles and accessories.
• Garmin leads the outdoor and fitness category, with GPS watches and running gear frequently discounted, and Yeti coolers and drinkware also seeing steady markdowns.
• DeWalt power tools are among the most popular home improvement deals, alongside robot vacuums, baby gear and furniture that regularly go on sale during the event.
• Fashion and beauty round out the picture with fewer single-brand deals to point to: Amazon has flagged clothing and personal care as core Prime Day categories in recent editions, with recurring markdowns on staples like Levi's denim.

Other Stores Running Deals Alongside the Best Amazon Prime Day Deals

Amazon isn't the only retailer cutting prices this week. Walmart and Target routinely launch their own multi-day sales timed to overlap with the event, competing head-on in categories like electronics, home and back-to-school essentials.

Plenty of individual brands join in too, running site-wide promotions of their own that don't require a Prime membership at all, so it's worth checking a brand's own store alongside Amazon Prime Day sale before buying.

Grubhub has also tied promo codes to past editions, a reminder that Prime Day discounts now reach well beyond retail into food delivery and other services.

Amazon Prime Day Promo Codes

Compared to deals, Amazon Prime Day coupon codes play a smaller role, since most savings during the event come as automatic price cuts rather than codes you need to enter. Where brands do release an Amazon Prime Day coupon code, Discoup lists it here alongside the standing discounts, so shoppers can stack whichever offer applies.

FAQ

• How often is Prime Day?

Prime Day now happens twice a year. Amazon added the second, smaller fall edition in 2022, on top of the original summer event.

• When is the next Prime Day?

Amazon usually runs a second, smaller event in the fall. The 2026 edition has been confirmed for October 6 and 7, in line with the early-to-mid-October pattern of recent editions.

• When does Prime Day start?

Amazon doesn't lock in a fixed start date every year: the official dates are usually announced only a few weeks ahead of the event. Prime Big Deal Days has traditionally landed in early October, and the 2026 edition confirmed this pattern, starting October 6.

• When do Prime Day deals end?

The end date moves along with the start date, since Amazon sets both together. Prime Big Deal Days typically runs for 48 hours, and the 2026 edition followed that same pattern, ending October 7.

• How long does Prime Day last?

The June 2026 edition ran for four days. The fall edition, Prime Big Deal Days, is shorter: the 2026 edition runs for 48 hours, October 6 and 7. Earlier editions have run anywhere from two to four days, so the exact length can shift slightly from one year to the next.

• Is Prime Day only for Prime members?

Yes. Prime Day sales are exclusive to Prime members, though shoppers without a subscription can sign up for a free trial just to shop the event.

• How does Prime Day work?

Deals don't all go live at once. Amazon drops new offers throughout the event, including a rotating set of Today's Big Deals several times a day and time-limited Lightning Deals, so items worth watching can sell out or expire before the event ends.

• Is everything on sale on Prime Day?

No. Prime Day isn't a sitewide sale — discounts apply to selected items across dozens of categories, not the entire catalog, so prices on plenty of products stay unchanged during the event.

• What happened to Amazon Prime two-day shipping?

Two-day shipping hasn't disappeared, but Amazon has shifted more of its network toward same-day and next-day delivery on eligible items, which pushed some other products, including oversized or third-party items, onto longer delivery windows. Some Prime members have reported shipments taking longer than the original two-day promise, particularly around peak periods.

• Is Prime Day better than Black Friday?

It depends on what's being bought. Prime Day tends to lead on Amazon devices and tech, but it requires a Prime membership and is limited to Amazon. Black Friday spans thousands of retailers with no membership needed, and tends to have the edge on categories like TVs, appliances and clothing.
